Javier Pierrend & the
"Give a Hand Project":
$ 1,050 raised in total
2 Different schools where fundraisers took places
May, 2009: Fundraising is now over for
2008-2009 and Javier raised a total of $ 1,050. The money was
used to finance the "Children of Peru Foundation"
project to construct a building with 3 new classrooms
for the Gustavo Mohme high school in Huaycan, a
poor neighborhood near Lima where our partner
Samusocial Peru is present.
Next "Give a Hand Project" fundraisers will take
place after the summer.
April, 2009: Javier Pierrend is a young US
citizen with Peruvian origins. He is currently a student
at Monroe Technology Center in Northern Virginia
and he has always been trying to help out kids in his
native country. He contacted us at the beginning of this
year wanting to see how he could help out the
Children of Peru Foundation.
After several conversations, he came out with the
"Give a Hand Project".
The "Give A Hand Project" raises money to help
build a school in Huaycan. Handmade Peruvian bracelets
are sold in different schools for $2, as well as shirts
and other "Give A Hand Project" merchandise and
all the money raised goes towards our projects with
Samusocial Peru. The "Give A Hand Project" is
always looking for schools that are interested in doing
this fundraiser and sell bracelets to raise more money
and inform people about the situation of these poor kids
in Huaycan.
So far there have been 2 events. The first one was at
Monroe Technology Center for 5 days and the second
one was at George Mason University for 2 days.
Hopefully the third fundraiser will be right after the
summer of '09.
