My fundraising goal: $4,000
Amount raised so far: $1,825
I have been fortunate to have spent two summers in
Peru working with various schools in both the cities
of Cusco and Huaraz. After coming across the
Children of Peru Foundation, I felt a strong
connection to their mission and wanted to become
involved. This organization’s Ironman team seemed
like the perfect way for me to raise money for a
great cause and challenge myself. I am passionate
about physical fitness and after competing in the
Baltimore Marathon, I would welcome the chance to train
and compete in an Ironman.
The Children of Peru Foundation aims to
provide better healthcare and education for
underprivileged children. Several of the projects
Children of Peru sponsors are in Cusco, an area I
have spent significant time in while experiencing
the kindness of its people.

Two summers ago, my brother along
with a friend established the Prescriptions for Peace
Organization in Cusco http://www.prescriptionsforpeace.org/
(no relations with the Children of Peru Foundation)
with the mission of providing low cost healthcare for
the local population.
When I received a call from the director of the
Children for Peru Foundation saying there was an
extra spot on the team, I was ecstatic. Committing
myself to this event made sense at this point in my
life. Although I had not fully thought through the
barriers I would encounter while fundraising and
training, I felt strongly about the cause and knew I
would not regret competing in the Ironman.
Without hesitation, I committed to raising $4000 and
finishing my first Ironman.
I know we are all flooded with donation requests from
many worthy causes. No donation is
too small and all donations will be in the back of my
mind August 11th when I am asking myself why I did this.
