Cynthia (Caceres) Baker was born in
Lima, Peru in 1982. When she was 12 years old, she
migrated to Memphis to reunite with her family who had
sought access quality health care for her brother two
years prior. Cynthia comes from a strong family lineage
that includes her great great great grandfather, Andres
Avelino Caceres, who was a 3-time president of Peru and
considered a national hero. But despite her beautiful
looks and amazing charm, you wouldn’t have known that
impressive family lineage when you spoke to her. While
having a vibrant presence, she dispensed it like silk;
and focusing her sincere attention on others rather than
herself.
If ever there was a life lived in but 30 tender years,
Cynthia was the example of how to live it. She was the
rose that life itself stopped to smell. She was a light
that will forever burn in our hearts and souls. No doubt
the fashion world and shopkeepers mourn as she was the
one that they all wished to dress. Style and vibrancy
bottled up in the present moment, no one who ever met
her could ever walk away with anything less than a
smile.
Cynthia attended high school at Immaculate
Conception High School graduating in 2001. Then went
on to earn her Bachelors of Science degree from
Christian Brothers University in 2005, and finally
earning her Dental Degree from the University of
Tennessee-Memphis in 2010. Cynthia met her
soon-to-be husband during dental school while at the
Phoenix Club Luau Party. They started dancing there
and continued to shut down every dance floor in town
that night. They married on June 4th, 2011. Having
moved to Little Rock, Arkansas months earlier, they
both not only followed their chosen professions, but
went about thrusting themselves into the local
community. Cynthia followed in her family's line of
service by using her free time to be on the Board of
Advisors for the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and
Arkansas Dental Association's New Dentists Board.
Beyond the public service, Cynthia was willing to
help friends and family in need of anything should
they ask.
She always helped others with a smile
on her face and happiness in her heart, truly making
every experience count.
Cynthia was survived by her husband and dance partner,
Lawson Reid Baker of Little Rock, Arkansas (formerly of
Memphis, Tennessee); daughter of Edgar ("Pepe") and Luz
Caceres of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter-in-law of Jim
and Judy Baker of Memphis; sister of Edgard Caceres of
Memphis, Christian Caceres (Brad) of Chattanooga;
sister-in-law of Austin Baker (Page) of Memphis and
Becky Crucifixio (Nicco) of Memphis; mother of her
puppies, Coco and Ema; grandchild of Mercedes Paz Bejar
and Theodocia Toppe Gonzalez; lovingly accepted into the
families of Lawson's grandparents Dr. Eugene J. Spiotta
Sr. and Dorothy Spiotta and Anna Leatherwood Baker of
Memphis. Cynthia was preceded in death by her paternal
grandfather, Claudio Caceres; maternal grandfather,
Manuel Gonzalez Moran; and Lawson's grandfather, James
A. Baker, Sr.
A presence that could change the aura of a room upon
entering, Cynthia looked life in the eye and said, "I
have lived you to the fullest. What have you done?" On
Tuesday, February 5, 2013, the heart of the world
skipped a beat, waiting, asking, "What are we going to
do now to change the world?"
While she will no doubt be missed here on earth as she
touched so many people, rest assured heaven just
received another angel, bright smiled and ready to
serve. Please consider donating to the Children of Peru
in Cynthia’s name. We think this to be the best way to
