Every day that has come and gone since volunteering in
Peru has been a day that I have dreamt of returning to
continue giving back to these communities that are so
loving, welcoming and giving. With a return trip not
possible in the foreseeable future, I am determined to
continue raising awareness and money for those that are
in such desperate need of education and medical
services.
With this said, I have made the decision to participate
in the 2012 New York City Triathlon in
partnership with, and by raising money for the
Children of Peru Foundation. This Foundation is a
very highly focused charity that is supporting amazing
work throughout the same regions I volunteered in just a
few months ago.
Below are three causes that your donations will be
supporting through the Children of Peru Foundation:
1) Medical Missions for Children – dedicated to
providing quality surgical and dental services to poor
and under privileged children.
2) Manos Unidas – scholarship funding for the
first private school for special needs children in Cusco.
3) Samusocial Peru – based in Huaycan (shantytown
near Lima), this organization supports two local
ambulances, providing local and immediate medical
assistance, and the support of a local school.
Having directly experienced the incredible need within
these communities I know the huge benefits that come
from even the smallest donation. I am so very thankful
for every dollar donated and can assure you that the
communities you will be supporting will be more thankful
than you could ever imagine.
